renewal
“renovate my heart, find beauty in the ruins
redeem the forgotten promises
revise the pages of the story
bring forth the dawn
awaken us into beauty.”
“Renewal,” Hope Curran Lundblad
The following paintings were created during a month-long residency called Renewal with a group of multi-disciplinary artists. We worked alongside one another for in Space 124 at Project Artaud in San Francisco exploring on the theme of Renewal.

about the paintings…
As I walked along the road to Santiago this summer in Spain, sights of crumbling homes and forgotten sacred spaces overcome by greenery captured my attention. These places hold a sense of time and mystery. there is a presence of stories and lives that once inhabited the place; an abandonment that left the structure vulnerable to weathering and forces of destruction; and a re-enchantment by life, wild, untamed.
Using these abandoned-re-enchanted places as a springboard, these paintings explore the longing for renewal in the midst of loss. What once brought security and beauty has unraveled. How can we release what is no more while honoring the good of what was? Acknowledging that the land we once knew is no longer; beholding the current state of brokenness with a loving gaze; finding home in a deeper, eternal safety.
