Watercolors from the Camino
"Yo pinto siempre con los ojos".
Joaquín Sorolla
In Summer 2022, I spent 32 days walking along the Northern Way of the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrimage. I would pause for an hour each day or so to take in the beauty and vibrancy of my surroundings and capture it in watercolor in a handmade book. From the deep blues of the Cantabrian Sea to the mysterious, abandoned monasteries reinhabited with vines, the scenes and encounters along the Way captured my heart and imagination. Pausing to be still in one place along the journey and getting to share my work with fellow pilgrims sharpened my vision / attentiveness and filled my soul as I was seen by others doing something I love and inviting them to look at their surroundings in a fresh way. I hope you enjoy these images from my book of paintings and that you taste the beauty and inspiration found on the journey.
